Family[]
Hu was adopted by Wu HuiQing 吴会清 in 1938 at the age of of 10.[1]
Early Life[]
Hu YiZhong (胡义忠), was born in 1923 in Mencun.
He was one of the youngest students of Wu Xiufeng, and belongs to the 7th generation of Baji inheritors. When he was 10 years-old, Wu HuiQing became his adoptive father. Later, he joined “Yi Sheng Gong” performance troupe, where he learned martial arts and the traditional drama techniques with Wu HuiQing, going on to become a famous actor in the region of Cangzhou
During this period, Hu learned Bajiquan from Wu HuiQing and then later from Wu XiuFeng.
Adulthood[]
Some years later, aged 21, Hu worked in a Japanese tinwork factory in the HongQiao district of Tianjin. On one occasion during his time there, he witnessed an incident where Japanese employees were bullying the Chinese workers; not one to stand by when he percieved injustice, he protested against it and became involved in an altercation with two Japanese fighters namedGangQi (岗崎) and ShanDao (山岛).
Later Life and Martial Arts Career[]
In 1958, after his father, Wu HuiQing, died, Hu left TianJin and traveled to HeiLongJiang province (north east of China), to work in HeGang coal mine. During this period, he accepted many students.
Twenty years later, in 1978, Hu retired to his hometown of MengCun. During this time, Hu worked with Wu LianZhi on various endeavours to promote Wu Family Bajiquan some communications with the students of Wu Lianzhi, Baji workshops in MengCun and some training courses for Baji players and amateurs from China and abroad.
After reaching the age of 70, he then travelled South to Guangxi and Hunan where he continued to accept students and transmit his Bajiquan. He was remarkably strong and agile, even in his later years.
Death[]
Hu passed away December 2008, aged 85.
Hu YiZhong is one of the editor for the book “traditional Chinese martial art official taolus——BajiQuan ». In the book “Wu family KaiMen Baji” written by Wu Lianzhi, which has been published in Japan, over one hundred of practicing photos of Mr Hu’s have been included into this book. Mr. Hu had contributed with great efforts to the development and promotion of Baji and his memory will stay in the heart of MengCun people for eternity
