New York Wu-Tang[]
Ma Long was in New York for a long time and now goes between Beijing and the US. He has frequented the tournaments we held here in Akron and recently in Las Vegas.
When we made our 2000 trip to China, Ma Long was just a hoot to have along. In the article I wrote I described him as:
Master Ma Marlon, although living in New York, has family ties in Shanghai, Northern China, Las Vegas, Beijing, Nevada, and Taiwan. His martial arts expertise and prowess always enlightens our experience of the tournaments and performances. He also has a very deep understanding of the Wu Tang martial arts philosophy and Chinese history. His commentary and guiding suggestions were most appreciated. However, his most redeeming qualities are his ability to explore, laugh, and play. A real night owl, he never runs on low! [1]

Philosophy Of New York WuTang[]
We train people of all ages in Kung Fu and Tai Chi. Whether you want to learn how to fight in real life situations, improve your health, or relieve your stress, our school helps you do these things. Combat: We are focused on teaching you how to deal with real life situations. We teach several styles of Kung Fu that work together as a system to give our students the skills to deal with any situation. Our system is made to deal with stand up fighting, ground fighting, weapons, and multiple opponents. We emphasize the use of techniques that allow smaller and physically weaker fighters to defeat bigger and stronger attackers. Mental training: The way we teach strengthens the minds and bodies of our students. We focus on helping students understand that the biggest obstacle to their success in life is their own mind. Our training focuses on helping students conquer their fears and their lack of will power and they come to enjoy being challenged both mentally and physically. Students find practicing kung fu and tai chi to clear their minds and relieve stress. Physical health: We offer programs of different physical difficulties to fit your needs. Our tai chi classes can be taken at any age and in virtually any physical condition. We also offer intense classes that are physically and mentally challenging for those who are already physically fit. We emphasize flexibility and coordinated strength, and do everything possible to keep you healthy while you learn.

WuTang History[]
The Wu Tang Chinese Martial Arts System was founded in 1971 by Grandmaster Liu Yuen-Chiao in Taiwan. His purpose was to organize, research, and promote authentic Chinese martial arts.
In Wu Tang, We teach several systems of Traditional Kung Fu; Tán Tuǐ, Long Fist, Praying Mantis, Tai Chi, Baqua, Baji, Piqua, Xing Yi, which when properly understood, modify and enhance one’s skills as a kung fu practitioner. We teach a mix of both Internal and External styles to give the student the ability to fight with both types of power.
Generally, students begin by studying the basic foundational stances and Tán Tuǐ to stretch out the ligaments and teach controlled defensive and offensive tactics that are the building blocks of everything one will learn in our systems taught. Building a strong stance, bodywork foundation or structure gives one both protection and method to developing power and fluid speed. When learning, the attention to refining the detail is the key to success. A minor misalignment of the feet greatly affects the stability and power of the stance.
There are eight basic stances. The first seven are :
Ma Bu
Gung Bu
Bu Tuei
Du Li
She Bu
Chi Shin Bu
Tzuo Pan
The eighth is actually a punching movement that is a combination of Gung Bu and Ma Bu, called Gung Ma Chue. Gung Ma Chue teaches the coordination the entire body to produce power for the punch.
Students then learn long fist, a style that emphasizes flexibility, stretching, and stamina. At the Wu Tang we teach Tan Tuei (spring legs), which is a basic movements of the Long Fist System. Its relative simplicity allows the learner to gain a greater awareness of his/her body, and it gives the learner a taste of learning long sequences of movements. Despite it’s apparent simplicity, Tan Tuei is an efficient, useful and direct movements all applicable to fighting.
After developing both physically and mentally through learning long fist, the next step is usually the praying mantis style of Kung Fu. Praying Mantis emphasizes using speed and power together. Students study how to control enemies, critical strikes, close- and middle-range fighting for engaging multiple opponents. Praying Mantis Kung Fu is a vicious fighting style that requires dedication and a deep understanding of one’s own body and those of others.
Tai Chi Chuan, which many people regard as simply exercise. The Wu Tang teaches Tai Chi Chuan in the proper manner, emphasizing that Tai Chi, roughly translated, means Great Power. It is a martial art, and without understanding that it is meant for fighting, one cannot gain all the benefits that the study of Tai Chi offers; Redirection, Flow and Wrestling. Students are trained to not only learn the sequences of movements, but to apply them and how to generate the most power from them.
What the western world refers to as martial arts is actually a science—a science of how to fight in war. At times of war, one does not march into battle empty handed. Instead, a soldier takes weapons with him. At the Wu Tang, training in combat with weapons is regarded as both useful and necessary. Once students have developed both their minds and bodies to the proper level with empty-handed combat, learning armed combat enhances their awareness and abilities. Wu Tang teaches combat with the Da Dao (Saber or Chinese Broadsword), Shuan Dao (Double Sabers), The Jian (the Chinese Long Sword), the Staff, and the Spear.
Finally, after long years of study at the Wu Tang, students are offered the chance to learn Bajiquan and Piquaquan. These styles are a combination of both internal and external power, and both complement one’s abilities in other fighting styles. Ba Chi means roughly “eight powers,” and it emphasizes structure that creates power. It also teaches a fighter to use all the weapons of the body. Pi Kua or “Axe Hands” uses flexibility and flowing motion to generate power.
Grandmaster Liu Yun Qiao was one of the most famous students of Great Grandmaster Li Shu wen, also known as the God of Spear. Li Shuwen was a master of Ba Ji Quan from ChangZhou, China. He was a skilled fighter, who was well known for not knowing what it was like to hit a man twice. As a testament to the skills of Li Shuwen, it was notable that three of his most famous students were:
Li Chenwu, bodyguard to the leader of the People’s Republic of China, Mao Zhedong; and Huo Dian Ge, bodyguard to the last Emperor of China, Pu Yi.
Grandmaster Liu Yun Qiao recognized the need to preserve and spread kung fu. Kung Fu and the thousands of years of research and knowledge that was associated with it was in danger of being lost forever due to the cultural revolution. Many of the masters of kung fu who were persecuted and killed in China during the Cultural Revolution. Fortunately, Taiwan became a museum of kung fu, because many of kung fu masters were involved in the military of the Republic of China that fled to Taiwan. Seeing that kung fu was at risk, Grandmaster Liu had the foresight to recognize that it was time to open up the teaching of kung fu, which up until that point had been secretive, and the knowledge was very closely held.
By 1992, when he passed away, Grandmaster Liu and his disciples had instructed more than thirty thousand students and were on the teaching staff of over 40 colleges. The Wu Tang Chinese Martial Arts Center has become the largest and most popular independent Kung Fu school in Taiwan.
Grandmaster Liu’s effort in the development of Wu Tang played a crucial role in the modern history of Chinese martial arts by bringing the accessibility and popularity of Kung Fu training back into the Chinese and Taiwanese community.

The Color Coded Belt System of some Wu Tang Institutions in most locations is mostly used to appease the general publics marketing experience of the 1970's. The easy to distinguish color code was adopted from seeing the simple benefits of other martial systems; Karate, Jiujitsu, Judo, etc. Beginners to martial arts and especially children appreciate the visualization of goals and to guide, help, develop true discipline. As such, the achievement of "Blackbelt" can be achieved in as little as 5 years. Students who work exceptionally hard, gifts of talent, above and beyond dedication, and show faster growth can be eligible for the Blackbelt in 3 years. With other martial arts experience in consideration on case by case basis, the ''Blackbelt'' is just the first or second of further many big steps ahead. During the time of Whitebelt through Brownbelt, Wu Tang teaches Changquan, and 2 styles of Tanglangquan: Seven Star Preying Mantis 七星螳螂拳 and Eight Step Preying Mantis 八步螳螂拳, as well as a first weapon. This is to first start developing the physical body conditioning needed in order to proceed.
