Wei Hong-En was a student of both Han Hua-Chen and Li Shu-Wen.
Biography[]
Wei was born in 1901, several years before his younger brother, Wei Hong-Bin.
We died in 1976, a year after his brother.
Martial Arts[]
Wei learned Bajiquan alongside his brother, Wei Hong-Bin, in 1919[1]. He was able to learn from two of the most reknowned bajiquan masters of his era: Han Hua-Chen[2] and Li Shu-Wen[3]. 20 years later, in 1939, they brought bajiquan to the city of Qinhuangdao, in Hebei, China.[1]
Legacy[]
Wei's teachings are passed on most notably in the Wei Family branch of Baji, in particular by way of the Wu Zhong Baji Quan Kung Fu School in Canada by current headmaster, Stephen Ip.
In 2019, there was a celebration held in the city of Qinhuangdao to mark one century of Wei Family Bajiquan and 80 years of Bajiquan in the city. Wei Jiu-Ru, the son of Wei Hong-Bin was present as well as several famous Baji masters and masters of other styles. Among the guests, there was also Wu Bin, the master of Jet Li.[1]
Noteable Students[]
Wei taught both Zhao Qi You (趙起有) and Master Wei Jiu Ru (魏九如), alongside his brother, Wei Hong-Bin.[3]
