Wu Xiufeng was a 6th Generationmaster of Wu Family Kai Men Bajiquan and is considered the "grandfather" of many modern systems of bajiquan.

Life[]
Wu Xiufeng was born in 1908 (the 34th year of Guangxu in the Qing Dynasty) to the Wu family of Mengcun, Cangzhou, Hebei. His father, Wu Huiqing, was the fith generation inheritor of the family's martial arts and was known as "Iron Palm".
Childhood[]
In his youth, the combination of a hearing impairment and the shock of his mother's death, led to him being a very withdrawn child. It is said Wu struggled to communicate and talk to others, even until he was 10-years-old, however, he was very interested in people practicing martial arts in his yard. It was is around this time that, by chance, his father discovered that Wu had a good understanding of what he was watching and so he began to systematically and formally teach his son the family's Bajiquan.
Military Career[]
Wu once served as a national martial arts instructor for the Red Army troops in Jiangxi, and instructed Red Army soldiers to practice Bajiquan. In 1931, Wutravelled to Zaozhuang to teach martial arts at the invitation of several famous masters including Han Huachen, Zuo Shuang and Li Guangju[1].
